Interview with This Condition

We recently sat down with Long Island’s This Condition. We’re fans of these guys and are proud to have them as part of the Feed The Beat family. Read the interview and make sure to follow them on twitter!

You played on Bamboozle this past year. As an unsigned act that is an accomplishment. How did it come about?
It was absolutely a huge accomplishment for us but we have to give a lot of credit to the fans and friends of our band.  We entered in an online battle of the bands through Showpopr.com that had around 250 bands competing for the one spot by gaining votes.  In the end we won and beat out some decently sized signed bands.  Playing the show was our first taste at a festival style show and it was definitely very memorable.

Since you are a young touring band, how do you deal with your home lives and still have time to promote and play in the band?
Touring at this stage of the game is definitely something that is very hard.  We don’t make money for ourselves and barely make enough money to keep up on all of our expenses so everyone needs to be able to keep a job while at the same time being able to tour whenever an opportunity arises.  In a scene like Long Island, it is also very important to go support other bands, attend different national shows that  come through, and other events that just allows yu to create new friendships and network.  Needless to stay, this does not leave a lot of free time and puts some strain on our home lives.  It takes a lot of work but we make it happen because we are doing what we love.

What are your favorite things to do on tour – any pre-show rituals?
We really are not a big pre-show ritual kind of band.  We have never really had anything we consistently do before we play we are just focused on playing a great show.  We have tried dancing and jumping around and nothing seems to fit us yet, so I guess you can say we are still searching.  When we find one we’ll let you know!

How do you connect with fans while not on the road?
Our band is very big into Twitter. You can follow us @thiscondition @mikecondition @natecyph @whoisnickyc @punkstasteve.  We like to post a lot of pictures and just behind the scenes stuff that we do as a band while we are home.

How has social networking sites helped/hurt your band? Is it important to rely on one medium?
Social networking has done wonders for our band.  It is really the main way to reach out to new fans.  If it wasn’t for social networking we would not have won the contest to help us play Bamboozle.  Sites like Purevolume that really feature up and coming acts are great for getting some notice.  At the same time, social networking has just allowed for way too many bands.  It has just made it really hard to get noticed and really easy to make it seem like your getting noticed.  You just have to show you want it and work the hardest.

What is “This Condition?”
We originally got our band name from a song but I would like to think it has turned into a completely different concept.  Love is our condition.  We share it through everything we do.  Come join us!
